قال الله تعالى

 {  إِنَّ اللَّــهَ لا يُغَيِّــرُ مَـا بِقَــوْمٍ حَتَّــى يُـغَيِّـــرُوا مَــا بِــأَنْــفُسِــــهِـمْ  }

Institutional Racism

Written by
Institutional racism and systemic racism are terms bandied about these days without much clarity. Being 84 years of age, I have seen and lived through what might be called institutional racism or systemic racism. Both operate under the assumption that one race is superior to another. It involves the practice of treating a person or group of people differently based on their race. Negroes, as we proudly called ourselves back then, were denied entry to hotels, restaurants and other establishments all over the nation, including the north. Certain jobs were entirely off-limits to Negroes. What school a child attended was…
The Indonesian Navy launched on Monday two domestically manufactured Type PC-40 M warships called Karotang-872 and Mata Bongsang-873. The launch ceremony for the two patrol warships was held at the shipyard of the private Batam-based ship manufacturer PT Karimun Anugrah Sejati in Riau Islands, which produced the vessels. Navy chief of staff Adm. Yudo Margono said the two warships were aimed at increasing the navy's patrol strength and improving safety in Indonesian waters. "As a maritime nation and the world's largest archipelagic country, Indonesia should improve its ability to secure its vast territorial water," Yudo said in a written statement…
America is moving up the ranks of the Bloomberg Misery Index, an index in which being number one means being the worst. Last year, America came in 50th. This year, America jumped to 25th among 60 economies compared based on their estimated price growth and joblessness, both of which are seen as big economic contributors to misery. In a Thursday Bloomberg article about the new index results for this year, Catarina Saraiva and Michelle Jamrisko write, “The U.S. is projected to see the worst reversal of fortune this year in a ranking of global economic misery, underscoring just how much havoc the [coronavirus]…
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP called on Congress to pass a sweeping $1.5 trillion infrastructure package Tuesday night during his State of the Union address. The infrastructure proposal itself wasn't a surprise. Trump has been making the pitch since his campaign trail days. But what he left off his infrastructure to-do list surprised some: Schools. For the past year, the president has been consistent in pledging to bolster the country's K-12 schools as part of an infrastructure plan to right what he's characterized as a facilities problem. He even made it a cornerstone of his election night speech on Nov. 7, 2016: "We…
Two months after the assassination, on April 7, 2005 the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1595 to form “an investigative team to look into Hariri’s assassination.”  https://www.globalresearch.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Screen-Shot-2020-08-19-at-21.24.28.png   The team’s report submitted to the UNSC in October 2005 pointed to the role of Syria’s military intelligence. The insidious role of Israel’s spy-ring operatives inside Lebanon was casually  ignored despite the evidence. This report serves Israel’s interests. It was released 8 months before Israel’s invasion of Lebanon in July 2006. The following article of Rannie Ariri published ten years ago suggests that the verdict of the LST judgment should be questioned. “Outside the obvious deleterious ramifications…
On July 21, Iran’s foreign minister, Javad Zarif, made an unscheduled visit to Russia to deliver a message from President Hassan Rouhani to President Vladimir Putin and meet with his counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. Two days earlier, Zarif had been in Baghdad holding meetings with Iraqi officials, and he was expected to be in Tehran during the Iraqi prime minister’s visit on July 21 to receive his counterpart. Thus, his sudden change of plans and trip to Russia on the same day suggests the situation was urgent. The precise nature of Rouhani’s message to Putin and negotiations with Foreign Minister Lavrov remain a mystery; when…
President Donald Trump slammed former First Lady Michelle Obama on Tuesday after she attempted to blame his administration for the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic during a Monday night speech at the Democratic National Convention. Trump responded to her remarks by writing on Twitter: “Somebody please explain to [Michelle Obama] that Donald J. Trump would not be here, in the beautiful White House, if it weren’t for the job done by your husband, Barack Obama.” “Biden was merely an afterthought, a good reason for that very late [and] unenthusiastic endorsement,” Trump continued. “My Administration and I built the greatest…

All Spying All the Time

Written by
During this summer of madness in Portland, Oregon, and sadness over COVID-19, two below-the-radar events occurred implicating the insatiable appetite of the United States government to spy on everyone in America. Regular readers of this column know that the feds have been wearing away at our privacy rights using a multitude of means. Yet, these two below-the-fold events this summer have caught the feds flatfooted. Here is the backstory. After the calamity of Watergate, Congress investigated the nature and extent of FBI and CIA spying on Americans as ordered by President Richard Nixon. A Senate committee headed by the late…
The United States has been an active military player around the globe since the end of the Cold War. It has fought bloody and expensive wars in Iraq and Afghanistan while also conducting significant military operations in the Balkans, Libya, Syria, and other hot spots in the Middle East and North Africa.     The election of Donald Trump and the significant support garnered by Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren in the Democrat primary suggests that Americans have become weary of this heavy burden. These elected officials prominently called for new thinking about America’s role in the world and benefited from it.   …
LEIDSCHENDAM, Netherlands (Reuters) - A U.N.-backed tribunal on Tuesday said there was no evidence the leadership of Hezbollah or the Syrian government were involved in the 2005 killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri. Four members of the Iran-backed Shi’ite movement Hezbollah are charged with conspiracy to carry out the massive bomb attack that killed Hariri and 21 other people. Hariri, a Sunni Muslim billionaire, had close ties with the United States, Western and Sunni Gulf Arab allies, and was seen as a threat to Iranian and Syrian influence in Lebanon. He led efforts to rebuild Beirut following the…
The accusation that the Chinese government delayed in letting the world know about the COVID-19 outbreak has become a political weapon in countries including the US, the UK and Canada. But China’s scientists have won international praise for hitting several key milestones in understanding the novel, fast-moving virus. Chinese leaders were seen as slow to react to the outbreak that began in the city of Wuhan, suppressing information and even punishing those who raised the alarm. “There was an early cover up in Wuhan, perhaps a few days to a week, before the threat was accepted. We will never know…
