قال الله تعالى

 {  إِنَّ اللَّــهَ لا يُغَيِّــرُ مَـا بِقَــوْمٍ حَتَّــى يُـغَيِّـــرُوا مَــا بِــأَنْــفُسِــــهِـمْ  }

سورة  الرعد  .  الآيـة   :   11

ahlaa

Hong Kong and the Limit of U.S. Power

Written by
Since China’s brutal crackdown in Hong Kong, the Special Administrative Region has lost its international sheen. Foreigners are not the only people leaving. The best and brightest intellectual lights and political activists are either in exile or prison. Tens of thousands of others have relocated, including many young professionals who want to be free to speak their minds and parents who want their children to be free from communist indoctrination. John Lee Ka-chiu, the Chinese-imposed chief executive, has grown concerned about the city-state’s global status. With some Western companies leaving, Chinese enterprises are playing a larger economic role in Hong Kong. In…
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful The Almighty God is exalted as he took His Servant by night from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings are blessed, to show him of our signs. Indeed, the Almighty God hears and sees. (Verse One of al-Asra Chapter, Holy Quran) Your Excellency Mr Erdoğan, the Honourable President of Turkey Honourable Heads of Muslim State Distinguished Heads of Participating Delegates Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu I would like to begin with appreciating the efforts of my dear brother His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for organising this very significant…
There is a renewed push from some European allies for NATO to create a “road map” for Ukraine to join the alliance. According to The Financial Times, Poland and the Baltic states are pressing the alliance to take steps to move Ukraine closer to the future membership that the alliance promised in 2008 at the Bucharest summit. The somewhat surprising news in the report is that the Biden administration has joined Germany and Hungary in opposing these efforts “to offer Kyiv deeper ties with NATO and clear statements of support for its future membership.” The U.S. has been one of the…
French President Emmanuel Macron has got the Americans in a flap with his comments advocating greater European strategic autonomy and for the old continent to avoid becoming embroiled in a US-China confrontation over Taiwan.Macron made his remarks while traveling back from China where he appeared to have been well received by President Xi Jinping. The trip reportedly garnered several lucrative trade deals for French businesses at a time when Élysée Palace is assailed with nationwide public protests and strikes over economic woes. The American chagrin over Macron’s musings about European strategic autonomy is revealing in at least two ways. The New York Times sniffily accused Macron…
After an intense round of secret negotiations between Iranian and Saudi representatives, at they would resume diplomatic relations following seven years of regional antagonism. In the wake of the reconciliation deal, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud officially invited President Ebrahim Raisi to visit Riyadh. Iranian Vice President Mohammad Mokhber revealed that Raisi has accepted the invitation, and Iranian Foreignfacilitated by Chinese mediation, Tehran and Riyadh announced in mid-March th Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has said Iran will reciprocate and send a similar invitation to the Saudi king. It is unclear if the Saudi-Iranian détente will last, but at least for now, China’s role in resolving this diplomatic stalemate…
By His admission, Israel’s new Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich is a “fascist homophobe”. This declaration, which he made on January 16, should be enough to accentuate the violent nature of the new political concoction created by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last December. Though Smotrich is not the only politician in Netanyahu’s cabinet with a track record of violence, both real and rhetorical, he is a special case. Unlike his boss, Smotrich does not feel the need for doublespeak or occasional diplomacy. In recent months, Smotrich has become internationally famous, not because of his financial genius that could resolve Israel’s impending financial problems as…

Are Americans Willing to Die for Taiwan?

Written by
China is spewing threats as Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen crosses the U.S. and meets with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Even though war rages in Europe, most American policymakers believe the People’s Republic of China poses a greater military challenge than does Russia. Indeed, the prospect of conflict with the PRC over Taiwan has become an increasingly popular topic in Washington.   There is overwhelming support for risking war with China, a rising, nuclear-armed power and potential peer competitor to the U.S. The only serious disagreement within the foreign policy blob is over secondary issues—for instance, should America make its commitment…
In recent developments, German Prosecutor General Peter Frank confirmed “there is no evidence to blame Russia for the destruction of the Nord Stream gas pipelines”: “It currently has not been proven (…) The investigation is ongoing (…) We are currently evaluating all this forensically. [The suspicion] that there had been a foreign sabotage act [in this case], has so far not been substantiated”, he said during the interview with Die Welt. No evidence of foreign sabotage of an act which has created social havoc and hardship in the European Union, with rising energy prices? People are freezing, unable to pay their heating…
This week marks fifty years since the United States withdrew its last troops from Vietnam. It was the end of America’s bloodiest war, as measured by American casualties, since World War II. The departure of the last troop-bearing plane culminated in a sixty-day withdrawal period as specified by a peace agreement that Henry Kissinger and Le Duc Tho had negotiated and was signed in Paris in January 1973. I was on that last plane. As an Army lieutenant in a unit that processed personnel coming in or out of Vietnam, I had to manage the departure of other GIs who…

Where the accent is on merit

The selection of Humza Yousaf as leader of Scotland on Tuesday marks the first time that a Western European state will be run by a Muslim. Mr. Yousaf, a second-generation descendant of Pakistani immigrants who speaks in a brogue as thick as his beard, will be sworn in tomorrow. The meaning of that milestone itself is difficult to parse. Mr. Yousaf’s ascent contributes to a unique historic moment. The prime ministers of Ireland and Britain, along with the mayor of London and the leader of Scotland’s main opposition party, are all of South Asian descent. That is hugely affirming for…
Confidence in the American legal system hinges on the beliefs that justice is blind and judges are impartial.  That confidence has taken a significant hit in recent years because Americans across the country have watched a two-tiered justice system emerge where violent activists are allowed to tear apart, loot, and burn whole neighborhoods in the name of social justice, while any excuse is accepted for arresting actual peaceful pro-life protesters who are at odds politically with the Biden Administration.   Further reputational damage occurred when no one was held accountable for leaking the Supreme Court’s draft decision in the Dobbs…
