The\u00a0<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.trtworld.com\/article\/01935f4cb3fe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><u>occupied West Bank<\/u><\/a>\u00a0is fragmented by checkpoints, gates, and roadblocks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">For most Palestinians, entry into\u00a0<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.trtworld.com\/article\/21cc51b8aaf3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><u>occupied East Jerusalem<\/u><\/a>\u00a0is either impossible or subject to Israeli permits that are routinely denied. International journalists face increasing restrictions as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">In that environment, these Jerusalem-based digital platforms became indispensable. They provided minute-by-minute reporting from the Old City, Palestinian neighbourhoods, and, most critically, the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">During Ramadan, during raids, during illegal settler incursions \u2014 these outlets were the connective tissue between Jerusalem and the rest of Palestine. They didn\u2019t just report news. They documented their presence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">That is precisely why they are now gone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Israeli authorities say the banned outlets were used to incite unrest. Palestinian journalists say this follows a familiar script: sweeping security accusations issued without transparent evidence, applied selectively to Palestinian reporters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">This pattern has played out repeatedly over the years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Allegations are made, often later challenged or debunked, but the consequences are immediate and irreversible \u2014 arrests, closures, imprisonment, and in some cases, death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The goal is not to win a legal argument. It is to remove voices from the field.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The ban on Palestinian Jerusalem platforms did not happen in isolation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">It follows Israel\u2019s renewed restrictions on\u00a0<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.siasat.com\/israel-passes-law-to-shut-al-jazeera-offices-in-jerusalem-3315226\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><u>Al Jazeera<\/u><\/a>, whose operations have been barred inside Israel \u2014 a move widely criticised by press freedom groups and virtually unprecedented for a state that claims democratic credentials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Together, these steps amount to a sustained campaign to narrow who gets to report on Israel, Palestine, and especially Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Journalists on the ground describe a chilling effect: editors self-censor, fixers pull back, and reporters increasingly calculate whether a story is worth the personal risk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Jerusalem without witnesses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">With Katz\u2019s order, Israel has effectively outlawed almost every Palestinian digital platform dedicated exclusively to Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">These outlets chronicled daily realities rarely covered elsewhere: home demolitions, land seizures, settler takeovers, arrests, and repeated incursions into holy sites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">For international media unable to maintain permanent access, they often filled critical reporting gaps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">In their final weeks, some platforms were forced to report on\u00a0<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.trtworld.com\/article\/b40c11cdf0cc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><u>Israeli incursions into Al-Aqsa\u00a0<\/u><\/a>from outside the Old City \u2014 including from the Mount of Olives \u2014 after authorities ensured that not a single Palestinian journalist affiliated with them was allowed to work inside.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">One of the banned outlets, Al-Asima (The Capital) Network, announced it was suspending operations. \u201cThis is not a retreat from our mission,\u201d the network said, \u201cbut a measure to protect our journalists from the occupation\u2019s brutality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">For Palestinian journalists, the ban merely formalises what they have long experienced: arrests, beatings, equipment confiscation, travel bans, and exclusion from key sites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Since the start of the war on Gaza, the risks have multiplied.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Over the past two and a half years, more than\u00a0<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/cpj.org\/issue\/israel-gaza-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><u>250 Palestinian journalists\u00a0<\/u><\/a>have been killed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">More than 200 journalists and media workers have been detained by Israeli authorities; at least\u00a0<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.trtworld.com\/article\/752ff9f7502e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><u>42 remain in prison<\/u><\/a>, many accused of \u201cincitement\u201d for publishing facts or footage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Being a Palestinian journalist today is not just dangerous \u2014 it is increasingly untenable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Palestinian analysts argue that Israel views the current moment \u2014 war in Gaza, international paralysis, regional distraction \u2014 as a historic window to accelerate long-standing plans in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\">From this perspective, silencing Palestinian media is not the objective.
