One of the most shocking incidents occurred on the very first day of the war: a missile strike on an elementary school in Minab, southern Iran, near the Strait of Hormuz. Award-winning Canadian journalist Dimitri Lascaris, formerly a board member of The Real News Network, traveled to Minab on March 28, 2026, to investigate the site. Accompanied by Australian author Tim Anderson and American podcaster Ahmad Saadaldin, Lascaris was guided by local journalists, including Ali Akbari of Press TV, to inspect the school and surrounding facilities.<\/p>\n

What they found challenges the official narrative. While the site includes the remnants of an old military encampment, locals confirmed that the military presence had been evacuated 18 years ago. The school itself, a mix of boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 classrooms, was clearly operational, with playgrounds, sports courts, children\u2019s art on the walls, and classrooms filled with educational materials.<\/p>\n

Lascaris documented that adjacent buildings, often mischaracterized in media as military facilities, were in fact residential or used for civilian purposes: a medical supply warehouse, a store for teachers, and other community facilities. Even the antenna on one building, initially suggested as evidence of military use, is a standard internet network device found throughout the region. Overgrown grass, rusted infrastructure, and old equipment confirmed that the former military camp had long been dormant.<\/p>\n

Parents and locals described the chaos following the strike. Many children were trapped under rubble, some horribly dismembered. Witnesses recounted the community rushing in to rescue survivors, despite the risk of subsequent attacks. Lascaris\u2019s reporting, supported by local testimony, provides compelling evidence that the strike targeted civilians, not active military sites.<\/p>\n

This investigation underscores a critical challenge: obtaining accurate information about the war from Western media is often impossible. Mainstream outlets frequently obscure or misrepresent the realities on the ground. Independent journalists like Lascaris are vital, bringing firsthand accounts to audiences globally, showing the human cost of a conflict too often reduced to statistics or political talking points.<\/p>\n
