On September 23rd<\/a><\/strong>, the UN published a little-noticed report highlighting a barely-acknowledged facet of the 21st century Holocaust in Gaza. Namely, the Zionist entity\u2019s genocide is wreaking a devastating environmental toll not merely on occupied Palestine, but West Asia more widely \u2013 including Israel. The damage is incalculable, with air, food sources, soil, and water widely polluted, to a fatal extent. Recovery may take decades, if at all. In the meantime, Gaza\u2019s remaining population will suffer the cost \u2013 in many cases, with their lives.<\/p>\n In\u00a0June 2024<\/a><\/strong>, the UN issued a preliminary assessment on the Gaza genocide\u2019s \u201cenvironmental impact\u201d. It found the Zionist entity\u2019s barbarous aggression had \u201cexerted a profound impact\u201d on \u201cpeople in Gaza and the natural systems on which they depend.\u201d Due to \u201csecurity constraints\u201d \u2013 namely, Israel\u2019s\u00a0continuing assault<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 the UN was unable \u201cto assess the full extent of environment [sic] damage.\u201d Nonetheless, the body was able to collate information indicating \u201cthe scale of degradation is immense,\u201d and has \u201cworsened significantly\u201d since October 7th.<\/p>\n For example, Tel Aviv\u2019s 21st century Holocaust has \u201csignificantly degraded water infrastructure leading to severely limited, low-quality water supply to the population.\u201d The UN finds this \u201cis contributing to numerous adverse health outcomes, including a continuous surge in infectious diseases.\u201d Groundwater contamination is rampant, with catastrophic implications \u201cfor environmental and human health.\u201d None of Gaza\u2019s wastewater treatment facilities are operational, while \u201cheavy destruction of piped systems, and increasing use of cesspits for sanitation, have increased contamination of the aquifer, marine and coastal areas.\u201d<\/p>\n Resultantly, the genocide \u201chas all but eliminated Gazan fishing livelihoods.\u201d Israel\u2019s \u201cdestruction of institutional capacity\u201d in the sphere means \u201cthere are no effective controls of contamination in the food chain from fish supply, leading to consumption of poisonous fish\u201d by starving Palestinians. \u201cMarine ecosystems have clearly been contaminated with munitions, sewage and solid waste,\u201d the UN gravely concludes. The situation demands \u201curgent re-installation\u201d of the Strip\u2019s water supply and wastewater collection capacity \u201cto prevent further human health impacts and prevent future outbreaks of communicable diseases.\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere, \u201cremote sensing assessments\u201d conducted by the UN indicate that by May, 97.1% of Gaza\u2019s tree crops, 95.1% of its shrubland, 89% of its grass\/fallow land and 82.4% of its annual crops had \u201cbeen damaged.\u201d As such, \u201cproduction of food is not possible at scale,\u201d and \u201csoil has been contaminated by munitions, solid waste and untreated sewage.\u201d The UN concludes the Zionist entity\u2019s \u201cmilitary activity\u201d has resulted in the \u201cdegradation of soils through loss of vegetation and compaction,\u201d with disastrous results.<\/p>\n The Gaza genocide\u2019s consequences reverberate in Israel itself. Tel Aviv\u2019s Health Ministry calculates that in\u00a02023 alone<\/a><\/strong>, pollution produced by Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s blitzkrieg caused at least 5,510 premature deaths locally. Given the Zionist entity\u2019s industrial-scale carnage \u2013 primarily inflicted via air \u2013 subsequently intensified to unprecedented levels, we can only speculate how much the situation has worsened today. Israeli officials were hesitant to release the 2023 report, and more recent figures are unavailable. The rationale for this omert\u00e0 is obvious.<\/p>\n The UN report details how destruction in Gaza \u201cis extensive\u201d, with an estimated 78% of the Strip\u2019s \u201ctotal structures destroyed or damaged,\u201d including homes, hospitals, mosques and schools. Locally, debris \u201cis now 20 times greater than the combined total debris generated by all previous conflicts in Gaza since 2008.\u201d Current estimates suggest \u201cmore than 61 million tons of debris will require clearing, sorting and recycling or disposal.\u201d Much of this detritus \u201cis contaminated with asbestos, and industrial chemicals.\u201d<\/p>\n Littered throughout the rubble will be untold human remains, recovery of which naturally requires \u201csensitivity\u201d. In the meantime, surviving Gazans must endure \u201csignificant volumes of dust\u201d created by Zionist entity bombing and demolition, which have \u201ccontributed to increased cases of respiratory infection,\u201d with over 37,000 cases reported in June 2025 alone. Unexploded ordnance also poses a high risk in urban areas, with safe removal necessary \u201cto mitigate risks of future explosion, damage, traumatic injuries and loss of life.\u201d<\/p>\n The UN nonetheless acknowledges its findings significantly underrate the true situation on-the-ground, as \u201climited data is available on air quality, due to minimal air-quality monitoring\u201d locally. Still, \u201cknown challenges\u201d include \u201cpollution from explosions and resultant fires during bombing campaigns, and emissions from explosions of munitions and resultant fires in bombed structures, including industrial facilities, which will also have likely released toxic chemicals into the air.\u201d Moreover, the \u201crepetitive nature\u201d of Israel\u2019s attacks \u201cwill likely have a cumulative impact on the environment\u201d in Gaza:<\/p>\n \u201cRepairing such extensive damage to land, soil, trees, watercourses and marine ecosystems will be essential for sustainable recovery of the Gaza Strip. Restoration will require a cessation of hostilities. The first phase of recovery will necessarily focus on saving lives, through restoration of essential services (notably freshwater) and removal of debris to facilitate safe movement.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The UN report notes, \u201csuch air quality issues will not improve substantially until the conflict ceases.\u201d There is no such end of sight at time of writing. Even a ceasefire\u00a0would inevitably<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0be extremely brief, given Tel Aviv\u2019s unconscionable record of prompty breaking such agreements throughouts its history. Meanwhile, Zionist entity officials\u00a0are hell-bent<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>on reproducing the Gaza genocide in the illegally-occupied West Bank, having made abundantly clear their intention to annex further territory via brute force, and mass civilian displacement.<\/p>\n A\u00a0July 2025<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0study by academic journal\u00a0Environmental Research: Infrastructure and Sustainability<\/em>\u00a0concluded Israel\u2019s rape of Gaza has created at least 39 million tonnes of rubble,\u00a0removal\u00a0<\/em>of which could generate over 90,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, and take up to four decades to complete. Simply clearing the wreckage would equate to dump trucks traversing the Earth\u2019s circumference 737 times, or 2.1 million separate vehicles driving 29.5 kilometres to disposal sites.<\/p>\n Environmental obliteration wrought by the Zionist entity since October 7th 2023 is far from restricted to Gaza. Ensuing missile exchanges between Hezbollah and Tel Aviv culminated in Israel\u2019s\u00a0criminal invasion<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>of Lebanon in October 2024. The fighting produced widespread agricultural desolation. Cross-spectrum Zionist Occupation Force assaults burned over 10,800 hectares of Lebanese land \u2013 an area\u00a0four times<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0the size of Beirut \u2013 incinerating tens of thousands of trees, dozens of farms and orchards.<\/p>\n Israel\u2019s\u00a0widespread use<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>of illegal white phosphorous munitions against Lebanon also ravaged the country\u2019s southern agricultural heartlands.\u00a0Laboratory analysis<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0by the American University of Beirut found that already in January 2024, soil locally had been contaminated to \u201calarming levels\u201d with heavy metals. Some samples showed phosphorous concentrations of 97,000 milligrams per kilo \u2013 over 120 times the substance\u2019s globally-accepted safe concentration. Crops and water have likewise been\u00a0dangerously infected<\/a><\/strong>, \u201cposing threats to livestock and human health\u201d that will persist for many years.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, \u201cextensive environmental damage affecting natural ecosystems\u201d is rife. Of the\u00a0estimated<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>$214 million in damage inflicted on Lebanon during the conflict, $198 million (95.2%) was suffered by Beirut\u2019s natural resources. In all, Tel Aviv\u00a0launched<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>roughly 7,000 aerial attacks throughout Lebanon, while its navy conducted more than 2,500 bombardments of the country\u2019s coast. Over 10,000 homes and close to 1,000 private buildings were targeted, along with bridges, factories, roads and other infrastructure.<\/p>\n A similarly horrendous story played out during the Zionist entity\u2019s failed\u00a012 Day War<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0against Iran in June 2025.\u00a0Tehran estimates<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0the conflict produced 150,000 tons of rubble locally, while Israeli strikes on the capital\u2019s Rey and Kan oil depots incinerated 19.5 million liters of fuel, pumping 47,000 tons of greenhouse gases and 578 tons of air pollutants into the skies.\u00a0Deliberate targeting<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0of South Pars, one of the world\u2019s largest gas fields, burned 5.5 million cubic meters of gas.<\/p>\n This broadside released over 12 million tons of greenhouse gases and 437 tons of pollutants. Air quality in multiple provinces across Iran has\u00a0deteriorated hazardously<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0since, while\u00a0sewage overflowed<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and access to clean water was disrupted in numerous areas due to Tel Aviv\u2019s attacks on\u00a0associated infrastructure<\/a><\/strong>. Mercifully, despite Israel and the US repeatedly targeting nuclear energy sites throughout the country during the pair\u2019s\u00a0botched bombardment<\/a><\/strong>, there is as yet\u00a0no indication<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0of ensuing radiation leakage menacing not just Iranians, but West Asia more widely.<\/p>\n Presently, the amount of deadly chemicals and dust released into the local atmospheres of Iran and Lebanon due to Israel\u2019s indiscriminate savagery cannot be quantified. However, history shows the impact of such offensives is enduringly lethal. NATO\u2019s illegal 78-day-long bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999\u00a0primarily targeted<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0civilian and industrial sites. A subsequent Council of Europe report concluded over 100 toxic substances\u00a0circulated widely<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>throughout the region due to the campaign. Not coincidentally, the former Yugoslavia\u00a0ranks highly<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>in global cancer rates today.<\/p>\n\u2018Safe Movement\u2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n
