How Does the UN General Assembly’s Decision to Approve the Two-State Solution Benefit the Palestinian People?

By Afaf Aniba

Overwhelming Approval… Then What?

A U.S. senator recently visited occupied Palestine and acknowledged the brutality of the Zionist occupation under Netanyahu, saying, “The suffering of the Palestinians is immense.”
I commented on the post: “The suffering did not begin under the criminal Netanyahu; it started in 1948, and to this day, we have not achieved justice in the Palestinian cause.”

Yes, the UN General Assembly approved the two-state solution. Then what?

Then what?

I remembered the wife of the Palestinian ambassador to Algeria—who represents the Ramallah Authority, which I consider treacherous—delivering a speech to us at a meeting organized by an Algerian organization. She said:

“We, just like you Algerians, are negotiating with Israel for independence, just as you did in the historic Evian negotiations…”

Immediately, I stood up from my seat and stormed out of the hall, outraged.
How could the wife of a Palestinian ambassador compare aliberation war with the state of surrender some Palestinians in the West Bank are living under, alongside a collaborating Palestinian Authority?

They acknowledge Palestine’s oppression partially, then what?

Then what؟

Who will heal the wounds of the people of Gaza and the West Bank?
Who will clear the rubble of a state project that has been bombed relentlessly for two consecutive years?
Who will bring the dead back to life?
Who will raise hope from the graves?
Who will restore the smiles to the faces of the emaciated children of Gaza?
Who will believe the lie of establishing a state on mere scraps of land?

Who?

Who, O Lord?
