The Rapid Support Forces seized El-Fasher over the weekend and have since been linked to multiple mass killings in the North Darfur city.
UK weapons and military equipment supplied by the UAE to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are being spotted on the Sudanese battlefield, according to a 28 October report by The Guardian.
The report cites two dossiers of documents, which have reportedly been seen by the UN Security Council.
Small-arms target systems and personnel carrier engines made by London are among the equipment being found in Sudan, the report says.
The report has also highlighted the UK’s role in fueling the Sudan conflict.
“Months after the UN Security Council first received material alleging that the UAE may have supplied British-made items to the RSF, new data indicates that the British government went on to approve further exports to the Gulf state for military equipment of the same type,” The Guardian notes.
The engines mentioned in the dossier are made specifically for a UAE-manufactured armored personnel carrier. These vehicles have also popped up in Libya and Yemen in violation of UN arms embargos.
Abu Dhabi has repeatedly been accused of supplying weapons to the RSF, which has been fighting in a brutal civil war against the Port Sudan government since 2023.
The RSF now controls most of western and central Sudan.
Just days ago, the paramilitary group seized control of the city of El-Fasher in North Darfur, after ceasefire talks in Washington collapsed. The Sudanese army announced this week its withdrawal from the city, which was its last western stronghold.
The capture of El-Fasher comes after more than 500 days of siege. Tens of thousands of civilians remain trapped, with many having lost contact with their relatives in other parts of the country.
The UN has warned of serious atrocities carried out by the RSF during the latest assault, including “summary executions” of civilians. There have been multiple reports of mass killings.
Volker Turk, the UN high commissioner for human rights, said the “risk of further large-scale, ethnically motivated violations and atrocities in El-Fasher is mounting by the day.”
Satellite imagery released by Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL) showed massive blood stains in areas consistent with RSF movements.
“At least three of the reddish instances have objects nearby measuring approximately 1.3–2.0 meters, consistent in dimension with human bodies,” Yale HRL said.
“Yale HRL has identified multiple credible reports of mass killings in El-Fasher across social media and open sources. There are multiple reports of civilians dying while fleeing El-Fasher, including due to wounds incurred by RSF,” it added. It went on to say that the RSF advance and restrictions on aid “raise the risk of crimes against humanity or even genocide.”
Sources told Middle East Eye (MEE) that the UAE has “refused to address the situation in El-Fasher.”
On Sunday morning, RSF fighters stormed the city, home to around 260,000 civilians, capturing a major army base and breaking through the last lines of defense. The RSF later declared full control of El-Fasher, hailing its fall as a pivotal turning point after recent territorial losses to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).
Around 150,000 people have been killed since the war began in 2023. Over 10 million have been displaced.
The paramilitary organization was officially accused of genocide by the US State Department at the start of 2025.
