The Global Battle of Ideas and Values

By Afaf Aniba

The world is currently witnessing a battle of ideas and values, a battle at its peak between strong ideas and solid values on the one hand, and weak ideas and fragile values on the other. What do we mean by strong and weak? We mean that some ideas and values are carried by actors who possess civilizational strength and cultural and moral dominance, while other ideas and values remain weak because their carriers have not endowed them with the necessary power to engage in peer-to-peer competition.

Consequently, the battle does not favor weak ideas and values. Whoever fails to employ their heritage, identity values, and ideas intelligently, and to work toward a deserved leadership position, is destined to fall sooner or later.

As the global stage shows, hegemony today belongs to those who have begun to emerge and to come out of a winning confrontation with the old Western camp that once monopolized civilizational leadership. Rising powers such as China, India, Brazil, and South Africa have succeeded in creating constructive shifts. I did not include Russia among them, as this state remains lagging behind both the old and new powers, and is entangled in a draining war that has cost it heavily.

So, have we understood the equation that governs the world today? Only those who prevail through intelligence, concrete action, and the political will behind their ideas and values can compete with a declining West. As for the carriers of weak ideas and values, they have no place in the equation.
