Women Bearing the Burden of Survival in Gaza’s Humanitarian Collapse`

The United Nations Population Fund representative in Palestine, Nestor Owomuhangi, stated from inside Gaza that “57,000 Palestinian families in Gaza are headed by women.” Let us imagine the situation: a woman—physically the weakest human being—finds herself, suddenly and overnight, responsible for an entire family after the men of the household have been killed under hellish conditions, while the so-called men of the Ummah sit in luxurious seats, watching Gaza’s inferno from afar… truly disgraceful.

A woman who supports a family loses so much; she sets aside her own concerns and needs as a human being and as a woman, focusing all her effort and thought on securing the bare minimum of survival for her family members. And what can she possibly do in the midst of a genocide unfolding silently under a false truce? What can she do when death surrounds her from every direction? If death does not fall from the sky upon her, it crawls toward her and her family through the loss of every basic necessity of life.

As the UN official testified: “The people of Gaza no longer ask for a house or a school; their only dream now is for us to give them a tent, water, and permanent heating.” This is all they hope for in a ghostly existence resisting the enemy’s brutality amid Arab and Muslim silence and complicity. So what can be said ?…
